KEY POINTS:
Resene Paints has come out with a new paint it says will deter flies from resting on it.
Resene marketing manager Karen Warman said today the company had found a way to resolve the unwanted fly spot nuisance through a novel approach -- by creating a surface that flies did not like landing on and thus minimising the appearance of fly spots.
"When resting, adults regurgitate a liquid that results in spots on the surface combined with other darker spots, both of which can be difficult to remove without damaging the paint surface," Ms Warman said.
She added that extensive tests by an accredited laboratory had shown significant reductions in fly spots compared with standard paint systems.
