Bernadette Morrison says Ponsonby recorded a median house price of $1.688 million over the June 2017 quarter according to provisional figures released by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand.
The median price was up 8.2 per cent, or $128,000, from the same period a year earlier, compared to a 3.6 per cent median price increase in the wider Auckland region over the same period.
An entry-level property would be a one-bedroom apartment that could be bought for $600,000 to $900,000. A three-bedroom home on a site of between 300sq m and 600sq m would sell in the range of $1.6 million to $1.8 million.
Four-bedroom homes on similar sized sites would sell for between $2.2 million and $3 million.
RENTS
Two-bedroom units or apartments start at $550 a week, while three-bedroom homes are from about $800 upwards. Larger homes are few and far between but normally rent for more than $1000.
