Stephanie Glennie and Peter Christoffersen, of Bayleys, marketed 1/7a Brighton Tce, which changed hands for $875,000. A 1960s brick and tile unit close to the Mairangi Bay shops, it has two bedrooms, a single detached garage and a small, private garden.

Tara Menzies, of Bayleys, sold 9 Folkestone St, a four-bedroom, two-bathroom weatherboard home on a cross-lease site with sea views for $1.83 million.

Bayleys' Sam Yeung sold 111a Matipo Rd, a four-bedroom home on a 454sq m site for $1.285 million.

Barfoot & Thompson marketed and sold the following three properties: 17B Ronald Macken Pl, a four bedroom, two-bathroom two-level townhouse on a ½ share of 802sq m for $785,000; 474 East Coast Rd, an elevated three-bedroom brick/block/cedar home on 811sq m at pre-auction for $1.8 million; and 387 Beach Rd, a three-bedroom home with rumpus room on 850sq m at auction for $2.06 million.

PROPERTY PRICES

A two- or three-bedroom unit or a home on a cross-lease site sells for $800,000 up to the early $1 millions. An average home of three or four bedrooms on a site up to 800sq m in size sells from the low $1 millions up to the high $1 millions.
A top-end property with up to five bedrooms sells for $2 million-plus.

RENTS

Two-bedroom homes generally rent for $450-$500 a week, while three-bedroom homes are $600 upwards. Four-bedroom homes normally rent for around $700, while larger and more prestigious homes can easily top $1000 a week.

Mairangi Bay beach
White sands and safe swimming make this beach popular with families, especially with
a playground nearby. Workers come down to the beach during lunchtime, sometimes with fish and chips, kick off their shoes and enjoy the setting.

Mairangi Arts Centre
The Mairangi Arts Centre in Hastings Rd is
a community group with the centre holding regular exhibitions in its main gallery as well as providing studio space and exhibitions for emerging artists. There are also classes, workshops and holiday programmes.

Farmers market
Every Saturday from 8am to noon, the Mairangi Bay Farmers Market offers locally grown produce, fresh bread, gourmet food and handmade crafts. The market operates in the Barfoot & Thompson carpark, accessed via Green Gables.
