Racy ukulele website ad sparks complaint

An ad on a ukulele website was a little too racy for one fan of the four-stringed instrument who complained it was inappropriate for children seeking sheet music to be invited to meet hot women in their area.

The complaint, laid with the Advertising Standards Authority, said it was not appropriate for the ukulelesongs.com website to feature an ad containing images of women under the title "Meet Hot Women in Your Area" - on the same page that featured links to kids' song lyrics.

The complainant said children visited the site to download ukulele sheet music for school and for home.

Users who clicked on the ads were taken to a link which showed an image of a woman holding a handwritten message that said: "I love Auckland guys that play the ukulele."

The authority ruled the complaint was settled after the advertiser and website agreed to remove the ad.
