New Image Group is trialing a milk product in Taiwan it says improves sleep and will decide whether to market it more widely by mid-2010 after trial results are assessed.
The company is a pioneer of colostrum and other natural health products and is listed on the NZX.
It said an agreement with Somnaceutics, an Auckland-based bio-technology company, gives it an exclusive right to distribute the product in Taiwan through its direct selling channel.
The milk product contains a high level of peptides, or protein fractions, which are believed to help people sleep.
A study released this month by the Taiwan Society of Sleep Medicine showed that the number of Taiwanese suffering from chronic insomnia has doubled in three years, with 22 per cent of the country's population having chronic insomnia.
