KEY POINTS:
Rural services company PGG Wrightson said today it was buying Australian seed distributor Auswest Seeds, boosting its business across the Tasman by 20 per cent.
PGG Wrightson's purchase of Kahibah Holdings, owner of the New South Wales and Southern Queensland business, was unconditional. Current managing director Graham West would remain with the company.
PGG Wrightson, a leading supplier of proprietary, turf grass and other forage seeds in Australia, had had a close partnership with Auswest Seeds for several years, PGG Wrightson Seed general manager John McKenzie said.
"The acquisition is a logical move to help build our business in what is a key target market, and grows our total Australian business by about 20 per cent," Mr McKenzie said.
Auswest Seeds was the largest independently owned wholesaler of pasture seed in New South Wales, and would continue to distribute products from a wide range of suppliers.
