Petrol prices to drop again

Petrol prices will drop even lower today as retailer Gull cuts up to 10 cents a litre at the pump.

From 7am today until midday tomorrow, Gull will drop its prices so 91 Octane is no higher than $1.769 a litre.

It says its nationwide average will be $1.745.

Gull says the discount comes ahead of the long weekend, during which many Kiwis will be on the road for a break or to get out and watch the All Blacks World Cup semi final.

This promotion comes as prices hit their lowest point since April, according to the AA.

AA petrol watch spokesman Mark Stockdale said before the latest Gull announcement that prices dropped 4 cents a litre this week.

The reason for the drop in prices was because of a "combination of a drop in commodity prices and the improving exchange rate", he said.
