WELLINGTON - Opposition revenue spokeswoman Annabel Young has set up a Website for people who want to talk tax.
The Tax Think Tank site is intended to be more of a sounding board than a soap box.
The aim, Ms Young said, was to provide a mechanism for feedback from tax practitioners and taxpayers on tax policy legislation coming before the House.
"It is a way of saying to tax practitioners, 'Someone says this is a concern. Is it a concern to the rest of you'?" Ms Young said. Contributors can ask for their names not to be used.
It would also provide some opportunity for input into the formative stages of National's tax policy.
"We need to ask: 'What do you think if we went down this line? What are the consequences we might not have thought of'?"
Designing a robust tax system that would still work in 10 or 20 years' time would require facing up to the impact of globalisation and trade via the internet, Ms Young said.
Among the site's links is one to the Institute of Geological and Nuclear Sciences - "so that people can check whether that was a tax bombshell or a real earthquake."
