An Australian tax inquiry may propose a national land tax, a new resource tax, a road congestion tax for cities and a national payroll tax to replace the state-based one, News.com.au reported on its website, without citing anyone.
The review by Treasury Secretary Ken Henry, expected to go to the Government by the end of this month, may also suggest the Government claw back the GST from states to fund the takeover of the public hospital system.
The New Zealand Government has indicated it may have to adjust tax policy if the Henry review puts this country dramatically out of step with Australia.
