Debts and a string of failed businesses have not put a dent in porn king Steve Crow's big-spending habits.
Yesterday the Boobs on Bikes organiser showed his penchant for flashy four-wheelers, bidding nearly $100,000 for a car.
Crow did not get to drive away in the 1996 Bentley Azure convertible, valued at $700,000 new. His bid of $94,000 was turned down by the seller and he left Turners Car Auctions in Penrose still negotiating on his mobile phone.
Crow is legally barred from managing any company after four of his companies failed in less than five years.
He owes Inland Revenue about $250,000.
Crow's businesses remain publishers of the NZX magazine and suppliers of sex toys and adult movies and the organisers of the Erotica festival.
Crow had his eye on the black 500 horsepower beast for sentimental reasons. In 2006, under the name Team Satan, Crow and his multi-millionaire property-developer mate David Blackmore drove the Bentley from London to Belgrade in two days as part of the Gumball Rally.
The finish line of the round-the-world rally was the Playboy Mansion.
If he won the car, Crow said he would keep it in a garage.
"I'm not ever driving a Bentley about. It's too ostentatious and too difficult to park," said Crow.
