Jess Wallace says she was never clear why ASB was getting her superannuation contributions, when she is a National Bank customer.
A year ago the 21-year-old editorial assistant was unwittingly "opted in" to an ASB default KiwiSaver scheme by an employer she worked for on a casual basis.
Because she was outside the six-week period for opting out of the Government scheme, Wallace decided to take the maximum five-year contributions holiday.
"I never really understood KiwiSaver, that's why I wasn't too keen. And that's why I took the holiday. I just thought I could delay it as long as possible."
She says she is saving anyway and believes she can do better on her own.
She has since persuaded ASB to let her opt out.
