Property developer Melview Developments has signed Quay West Resort as a hotel operator for its new $1 billion Kawarau Falls Station development, being built near Queenstown
Nigel McKenna, Melview's managing director, said the new hotel would have 195 rooms and was part of the Mirvac Hotels & Resorts chain. The five-star hotel would be called the Quay West Resort Queenstown. Melview has previously announced a 177-room Westin hotel and a 221-room InterContinental.
The Quay West Resort Queenstown will have 740sq m of meeting space, an all-day restaurant and bar, gymnasium and swimming pool. Construction is running on schedule. The project is due to be completed by 2011 and expected to be worth in excess of $1 billion.
At its peak, the project is expected to be the single largest employer in Queenstown, with about 880 people working on it.
The Westin Queenstown is due to be finished next year.
Construction of the Intercontinental Hotel and Melview's own hotel brand The Quadrant will begin later this year.
