Spitting rain didn't stop about 30 people turning out to the mortgagee auction of a four-bedroom West Auckland home yesterday. Auctioneer Ross Foreman admitted the run-down Avondale property needed "a bit of work". Nonetheless, four bidders competed for the house on a 790sq m section. Though the top bid of $252,000 didn't meet the vendor's expectations, Ray White agent David Sharma was confident it would sell after negotiation.
One couple said they thought the house could provide a good investment return, as other homes in the area were selling in the mid-$300,000s.
Next week's auction of a four-bedroom house in Mt Eden is being advertised on Trade Me under the heading "D.I.V.O.R.C.E".
