Credit card spending in October increased on last year as New Zealand enters the holiday spending season, new data from the Reserve Bank shows.
The monthly credit card spend report showed spending at $3.08 billion for October 2016 compared with $2.8b in 2015 and $2.75b in 2014.
Overseas spending on cards issued in New Zealand was fairly steady at $476 million compared to $448m last year.
Billing on cards was $3.48b, up from $3.18b the previous year, showing a 10 per cent increase.
The spend totals reflected the increase in tourism, with billings on overseas credit cards at $405m compared to $349 last October.
