KEY POINTS:
The AMP Capital Investors Superannuation fund has topped a performance survey of managed funds in a quarter where none made a positive return.
The Mercer survey, which analyses the returns for eight New Zealand managed funds over a five-year period, placed the AMP fund first over three months, one-year, two-year and three-year returns.
Over five years it ranked second to Arcus Investment Management, which has recently dropped its performance and is ranked last over three months. Tower Asset Management ranked second over three months, followed by AMP Capital Investors Unit Trust and Tyndall Investment Management.
But all eight failed to make a positive return over the three months period ended March 31. Returns ranged from -2.5 per cent to -7.8.
Five out of the eight funds also had negative returns over one year although over five years the average return per annum ranged between 13.2 per cent and 10.3 per cent.
