Livestock farmers are being urged to graze their stock on pastures before dead material builds up in the base of the grass, lowering its quality.
The issue is being promoted as a simple way to improve animal profitability, because low-quality pasture moves slowly through the digestion process, physically restricting the amount an animal can eat.
A Meat and Wool Innovation spokesman said more than 2000 farmers had attended $30 workshops on pasture quality and another round of workshops, including free grazing management software, were due this year.
