Sir Ross JansenA house in Orewa has been auctioned for $554,000 with the proceeds going to the Hibiscus Coast Hospice.
Gary Hansen, a sales agent of Harcourts in Whangaparaoa, said the new, four-bedroom house was sold on March 6.
The money raised from the sale would go towards a new in-patient unit the hospice needed.
A group of businessmen - Land owner Sir Ross Jansen, developer Leigh Hopper and builder/developer Ian Boocock - were all involved in contributing the site and promoting the hospice project.
Ross Morley, of GJ Gardner, arranged to have the house built at no cost to the hospice.
Morley also persuaded more than 50 tradespeople and suppliers to donate the materials and skills needed for to build house.
Hansen said new houses similar to the one auctioned generally sold for between $400,000 and $750,000.
