The cost of holding the Olympic Games has stretched the finances of Greece to such an extent that Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis has said he will slow the pace of Government spending and sell assets in a bid to finance tax cuts and rein in a widening deficit.
The Olympics cost 7 billion euro ($13.35 billion), pushing Government debt to 112 per cent of GDP.
