KEY POINTS:
Regardless of how the NZX first quarter results shape up when they are released today, chief executive Mark Weldon can lay claim to an outstanding performance - in the pool at least.
Weldon earned world champion status after winning the 100m butterfly in the 40- to 44-year old category at the World Masters Championships in Perth on Monday.
He won the final with an impressive time of 58.79 seconds. He also came third in the 100m freestyle, clocking in at 54.71s. Weldon represented New Zealand in swimming at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, as well as the 1990 Commonwealth Games, before going on to do degrees in economics, commerce and law.
Weldon said the masters tournament was the first time he had swum competitively since he took the NZX job.
He said it was "a bit of a struggle" to keep his training up but he had increased it before the event and was pleasantly surprised with the times he recorded.
