"We have achieved 27,708 as compared to a target at this time of 26,250. We are seeing the longest and strongest growth period in Auckland housing averaging 26.5pr cent per year since the Accord was signed.
"We now have an all-time record investment of $3.4 billion in residential housing in the latest annual data to February."
The 36 new SHAs and the extension to six existing SHAs equates to up to 3,406 new houses and sections on 243.4 hectares.

Mayor Len Brown said the progress of the Special Housing Area Accord was ahead of targets.
"Forty-four per cent of the consents issued over the last 12 months are for multi-level developments. So we see that the amount of choice in build and also affordable houses in those multi-level developments is picking up," he said.
Brown said land supply levels was about six and a half years of expectations.
"So, we're not only building at a pace significantly greater than we've seen in previous years, we've also got land supply at a significant level and in-line for population growth."
Smith said in the first two years of the accord, which was reached in 2013, there was an average of 52 new sections becoming available per month. In the first three months of 2016 290 new sections were available, which was "a phenomenal increase".
