New chief operating officer for Ports of Auckland

Ports of Auckland has appointed a former manager director of Maersk as its chief operating officer.

Jens B Madsen will take over the newly created position in the new year, when he will report to chief executive Geoff Vazey.

He will be responsible for the company's operations, with the exception of land management.

During Mr Madsen's 28 years at Maersk, he was head of the company's reefer business activities and managing director of New Zealand operations.

Mr Vazey said the company was delighted with the appointment.

"We have the highest regard for his experience and his abilities, and above all he knows New Zealand well from his time here with Maersk."
