KEY POINTS:
New car sales rose 29.8 per cent in May on the previous month, continuing the strong seasonal levels seen in the last three years.
The Motor Industry Association said 6344 new cars were registered last month, the most for May in the last 17 years.
New commercial vehicle sales rose 18.5 per cent on April, with 2051 sold.
