KEY POINTS:
A $30 million commercial business complex set to be the largest of its kind in the Lower North Island is on the cards for Napier.
Big Save Limited purchased 90,000 sqm of buildings and 4.6 hectares of land in Ahuriri, Napier last year.
It's director Tom McKimm said today approximately 10,000sqm of the park had been tenanted so far, with nine other business including Tumu Timber, Vetro Mediterranean Foods, Lollipops Educare and a Government department joining Big Save Furniture.
He expected other businesses to join and anticipated more than 1000 people working out of the site on its completion next August.
"We're well underway with three businesses already established on the site and most of the new construction projects have started," Mr McKimm said.
"Many of the buildings are iconic, so we have focused on refits rather than starting from scratch."
The complex included New Zealand's most photographed Art Deco building, the former British American Tobacco factory.
This had not been let but was being considered as a conference and events centre, Mr McKimm said.
Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce chief executive Murray Douglas said the development was great for the region and the business community.
