Consistency, wit and intelligence have won young creatives Daniel Lunn and Adrian Maidment a trip to New York.
The two took top prize in the inaugural AXIS Student Awards, presented at Auckland advertising agency GeneratorBates yesterday.
Mr Lunn and Mr Maidment will travel to New York in early May to attend the One Show Creative Ceremony and to compete in the Young Creative Professionals Competition.
They will also spend two months on work experience with GeneratorBates.
The winners, from AXIS AdSchool, showed they could produce consistently excellent work, said GeneratorBates creative director Oliver Maisey, one of the four judges for the awards.
An advertisement for the Waiouru Army Museum - one of four campaigns entered - had a simple and intelligent edge which allowed viewers to draw their own conclusions, he said.
But the high quality across all four campaigns clinched the prize, said Mr Maisey. Young creatives needed to be versatile and produce quality whether the brief was for bras or beer, he said.
Second place went to Gena Tuffery and Craig Knowles, of AXIS AdSchool. The partnership also won best single piece.
Third place was shared by Naomi Dixon from Massey University, Wellington, and Jared Milne and Jon Coles from AXIS AdSchool.
The awards were launched by the Communication Agencies Association of New Zealand and sponsored by GeneratorBates.
Mr Maisey said they were designed to encourage young people into the industry.
The other judges were John Plimmer, of Saatchi & Saatchi, Wellington; Mike O'Sullivan, of ColensoBBDO, and Paul Catmur from DDB.
