New Zealand is being investigated as a potential site for Motorola's third Australian research and development centre.
Three Motorola officials were in Auckland last week inspecting potential sites.
Spokesman Russell Grimmer said the officials were also inspecting sites in Christchurch and Australia.
Led by Richard Burford, Motorola Australia's managing director (software centre), the three visited Auckland, North Shore and Manukau cities before going to Christchurch. They are believed to have visited Massey University's Albany campus and inspected Akoranga Park and Smales Farm on the North Shore.
A decision was not expected before the end of the year, Mr Grimmer said.
Motorola has told New Zealand officials that the choice of site is important because it has to serve as a link between the company and the local university.
The university would be the company's source of staff and also a partner in joint-venture research and development.
Under a New Zealand Trade Development Board initiative, Motorola has been supplied with full information on local capabilities.
