The daily average value of shares traded on NZX was $69 million in January, down 10.2 per cent on last year.
There were 35,711 trades during January, down 1.2 per cent on last year.
A total of $86 million of new capital was raised during the month, comprising $10 million of equity and $76 million of debt. The equity market's capitalisation rose 4.9 per cent to $56.7 billion, while the capitalisation of the debt market rose 7 per cent to $16.1 billion.
There were 171 equity securities on NZX markets, down 6.6 per cent on last year, and 116 listed debt securities, down 1.7 per cent on last year.
The NZX 50 rose 0.9 per cent in January, up 5.5 per cent from the same time last year.
