KEY POINTS:
The total number of trades on the stock exchange was 22 per cent higher last month than in January 2006, market operator NZX says.
The 45,919 trades had a total value of $2.1 billion, a rise of 7 per cent.
The average number of daily trades was up 16 per cent to 2187, while the average daily value traded was $100 million, a 2 per cent increase.
During January $341m of new equity and $285m of new debt was raised.
The NZSX-50 index ended January on 4153 points, a 2.4 per cent increase for the month.
