The total value traded on the sharemarket in May fell 28 per cent from a year earlier to $2.75 billion.
Average daily trades were down 9 per cent to 2419, while the average daily value traded of $125 million was down 24 per cent on May 2007, the NZX May 2008 operating metrics published today show.
On the NZSX stock market, the 45,568 trades in May were down 14 per cent from a year earlier, while the total value traded of $2.49 billion was down 32 per cent.
The number of trades on the NZDX debt market rose 12 per cent on May last year to 3384, with the total value traded in the month rising 89 per cent to $256m.
On the NZAX alternative market, the 259 trades in May were 73 per cent down on a year earlier, while the $1m total value traded was down 76 per cent.
Smartshare Funds under management were 37 per cent up at $751m, and the number of real-time data terminals were 19 per cent up to 10,948.
