KEY POINTS:
Sharemarket operator New Zealand Exchange (NZX) is reporting an 8 per cent increase to 2372 in average daily trades last month, compared to January 2007.
The daily average value traded rose 3 per cent to $103 million, NZX said today.
Total trades on the NZSX stock market were up 9 per cent to 47,545, but the value traded was down 1 per cent to $2.013 billion.
On the NZDX debt market, total trades rose 20 per cent to 2004, with the value traded rising 147 per cent to $147m.
Activity was well down in the NZAX alternative market, as total trades fell 42 per cent to 265 and the value traded was down 74 per cent to $1m.
During the month $26m in new equity was raised, while market capitalisation was down 17 per cent to $64 billion.
The NZSX-50 index ended the month down 12 per cent from a year earlier.
