The sharemarket was virtually unchanged in opening trading after going on a roller coaster ride last week.
The NZSX-50 benchmark index, which rallied on Friday, was up 0.7 points at 3158.633.
There was no lead today from Wall Street which was shut on Friday for Independence Day.
But world markets generally edged lower on Friday as traders continued to worry about oil prices and the health of the financial sector.
Oil prices fell but not enough to give equity markets a boost.
Telecom was unchanged at 341 after recovering from 15-year lows to close at that level on Friday.
Fletcher Building was down 5c at 637 after rising 21c on Friday.
Contact Energy fell 1c to 779 after posting a 9c gain on Friday.
Mainfreight was down 10c to 630, making it one of the biggest movers in early trading.
Pumpkin Patch rose 4c to 152. Air NZ rose 1c to 110 and Auckland Airport rose 1c to 192.
