Does the Greek referendum ballot paper make sense to you?

On Sunday, the Greek public will go to the polls to vote on whether to accept the bailout proposals offered to the country by its creditors.

A No vote in the referendum - indicating that the Greek public does not want to accept the austerity conditions and economic reforms that come with the rescue funds - will widely be seen as a vote to abandon the euro.

It's a tricky enough situation already, buried under confusing financial jargon with regular breaking developments. But now Alexis Tsipras' anti-austerity Government has been accused of confusing the matter further by wording the question poorly and putting the "no" box above the "yes" box.

This is the question that will be put to Greeks in the referendum on Sunday. It has supposedly been translated into English:

Should the plan of agreement be accepted, which was submitted by the European Commission, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund in the Eurogroup of 25.06.2015 and comprises of two parts, which constitute their unified proposal? The first document is entitled 'Reforms for the completion of the current program and beyond' and the second 'Preliminary debt sustainability analysis'."

No, we're not sure either.

By way of comparison, the question in the Scottish independence referendum in September was: "Should Scotland be an independent country?"

Earlier today, the Economist Intelligence Unit predicted a 60pc vote for the "no" camp, but two separate polls conducted by Greek newspapers last week - before Tsipras announced the referendum - found that 60pc would vote in favour of accepting the bailout conditions.

No word as yet on the odds of the Greek public understanding the question.

The ballot paper's clarity is further clouded by the unconventional placement of the "no" box above the "yes" box in the answering section. This would be tricky in any language but could be particularly clunky for English speakers in Greece, where yes is pronounced "nay" and no sounds a lot like "okay".
