KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand dollar opened locally this morning around the same level as on Friday evening against the US dollar.
After ranging between US58.94c and US59.63c over the weekend, the kiwi was buying US59.20c at 8am - barely changed from US59.19c at 5pm Friday.
ANZ National economist Philip Borkin said a tentative start was expected for the kiwi this week as more liquidity returned to the market.
While the US dollar may have some positive moves in Asian trading time today, the "bigger unemployment picture should not be forgotten".
The kiwi's value was mixed against other major currencies, but up against the basket of currencies measured by the trade-weighted index to 57.92 at 8am, from 57.72 on Friday.
The kiwi firmed against the aussie dollar to A84.34c at 8am (from A83.67c at 5pm Friday). It also gained against the euro to 0.4395 (0.4336) but slipped against the yen to 53.40 (54.02).
