KEY POINTS:
The New Zealand dollar bounced around against the greenback overnight, as a two-day rally by the United States currency against the euro came to an end.
By 8am today the kiwi was buying US76.28c, having moved up from under US75.90c around 2.30am, its lowest point since early Saturday.
Against the high-flying Australian dollar, which hit a 23-year against the US currency on Monday, the kiwi slipped through the night.
After briefly topping A85.40c before 8pm, the NZ dollar was down to A84.93c by 8am.
It also trended downwards against the euro, from above 0.5441 euro early afternoon yesterday to 0.5410 by 8am.
Against the yen the kiwi bounced around during the night in much the same way as it did against the greenback.
The NZ dollar dropped below 88.90 yen around 3am, its lowest level against the Japanese currency since early Saturday, then rebounded to be at 89.40 yen by 8am.
The trade weighted index was 71.75 at 8am, from 71.83 at 4.30pm yesterday.
The US dollar's overnight fall against the euro came after the greenback had earlier hit a two-week high against the common currency.
Traders were seen to be stepping in to buy back the euro at cheaper levels on expectations of further US dollar weakness.
That arrested a two-day US dollar rally, sparked by a growing view that last week's better-than-expected employment data would keep the Federal Reserve from cutting interest rates later this month.
