Aussie dollar hits parity with US

The Australian dollar has finally hit parity with the US dollar.

Trading during the afternoon in London pushed it through the barrier, to its highest level since it was floated in December 1983.

The New Zealand dollar has been dragged along for the ride it's been buying more than 76 US cents overnight.
