KEY POINTS:
Difficult tunnelling at Pike River's mine near Greymouth means it will not hit coal for a month.
The final push to complete a 2.3km access tunnel through to the Brunner seam has hit more fractured rock than expected.
It was previously thought the tunnel would hit coal at the end of this month.
Pike River said it still expected to meet its forecast 200,000 tonnes of coal production by June 30.
