KEY POINTS:
Chris Lynch has resigned from BHP Billiton, the world's largest mining company, after missing out to colleague Marius Kloppers for the job of chief executive officer.
Lynch, 53, BHP's chief financial officer between 2001 and last year, and now head of its carbon steels unit, will quit the board on June 30 and leave the company in the new financial year. "He did want the top job, so it's not a surprise," said Peter Arden, an analyst at Intersuisse, in Melbourne.
BHP appointed Kloppers last week.
