Labour Department investigators are asking for more time to decide whether to prosecute over the fatal Pike River Mine explosions.
Under normal circumstances the Department has six months after an incident to decide whether to lay charges - but in this case it has gone to the District Court to ask for an extension.
Acting Deputy Chief Executive, Lesley Haines says the Pike River investigation is one of the most complex ever undertaken by the Department.
She says it involves large quantities of records, complex technical issues and a significant number of interviews.
She says they are determined to ensure it is the most thorough and detailed investigation possible.
