Oceana Gold chief executive Steve Orr will leave the gold mining company on June 30.
The company has gold operations in East Otago and on the West Coast at Reefton.
Orr oversaw the start of the Didipio project, in the Philippines, but that was mothballed. The company hasn't ruled out the project recommencing sometime in the future.
Oceana Gold said in a statement that chairman Jim Askew would become executive chairman until a new chief executive was appointed.
