A logistics and transport company will have to pay more than $270,000 after a worker was injured when they became pinned by a forklift.
Kuehne + Nagel Limited were fined $252,000 and ordered to pay the injured worker $20,000 following a WorkSafe investigation of the incident at their Mangere site in June 2016.
The investigation found Kuehne + Nagel had not established or communicated any safe system of work with the truck driver, who was struck and pinned by a moving forklift while collecting goods on the site, resulting in seven fractures to his left foot.
Simon Humphries, WorkSafe's deputy general manager for investigations and specialist services, said Kuehne + Nagel had a responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act for those coming onto their site.
"The site was busy with more than 100 trucks coming in to deliver and collect goods each day. Kuehne + Nagel had a responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Act for those truck drivers and other workers coming onto their site," Humphries said.
