KEY POINTS:
Korean developers planning to build an Auckland apartment block almost as tall as the Sky Tower are moving ahead with plans for a second site in the city.
Dae Ju, which is developing the 67-level $450 million Elliott Tower on the former Royal International Hotel site in Victoria St, has now applied to build a large apartment and office tower on Shortland St.
The developers have applied to build the new tower near the Vero Centre.
The site was owned by Trans Tasman Properties and was formerly occupied by the Auckland Star newspaper.
Dae Ju wants to develop two levels of shops, five levels of office space and about 164 units on Shortland St, although it initially intended only to build apartments.
Marcus Beveridge, principal of Queen City Law, represents the Dae Ju group of companies in Auckland and said the developer had now decided on a mixed-use development to meet market needs.
In May, Dae Ju's owner Jae Ho Huh paid one of the highest prices for an Auckland house which Beveridge said might soon be demolished and replaced with six townhouses.
He bought the high-profile Takapuna house formerly owned by business couple Diane and Bill Foreman on Clifton Rd for $11.5 million.
Auckland-based staff working for Huh are looking for other properties in Takapuna.
