I was delighted to receive an email from the former chief executive of Hills Flooring, the family firm of many years' standing that went into liquidation following Mainzeal's collapse.
I wrote a column on the firm's demise some weeks ago.
Peter MacShane said most of the staff had received job offers from within the industry - in some cases, more than one offer. Peter said that wasn't surprising as his team was made up of skilled and very capable people and he said he was confident most of the staff would find suitable positions.
Peter reported that the management team at Hills had received countless messages of support from past customers and former staff members, even offers of help at no cost to the company and that, he said, really did restore faith in human nature.
Good to know that even in an employer's job market, there is still a place for good people.
