KEY POINTS:
An Auckland architectural practice has been commended for its design of a seven-level office and shopping block rising on Karangahape Rd.
The award, given by MIPIM Architecture Review Future Project, commended RTA Studio for its work on Ironbank, a building being developed by Samson Corporation.
Awards will be made at a conference in Cannes, France next Wednesday.
RTA Studio was commended in the mixed-use category and the project was acknowledged for its ecologically sustainable design.
Richard Naish and Tim Melville of RTA said Ironbank would have a range of sustainable features including "night purging" where windows would open automatically to regulate the building's temperature.
This would reduce the need for heating and air conditioning, they said.
Other features will include solar water heating, the re-use of storm water and mechanical car stacking to cut the amount of space needed for parking.
