KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) Jamaica's prime minister has informed Parliament about various agreements reached during a recent visit to China.
Portia Simpson Miller signed four agreements while in Beijing, the biggest being a pact with the Export-Import Bank of China for a preferential loan for infrastructure development. She says Jamaica also signed a pact with China that will provide $16 million in grants.
Responding to a question from Jamaica's opposition leader Tuesday, Simpson Miller said talks have started about removing visa restrictions for Chinese citizens.
Simpson Miller says Jamaica needs large-scale investment "to pull the economy from where we are." But she says "nothing special has been done" to foster more deals with the Asian economic giant.
Chinese President Xi Jinping recently said Jamaica is Beijing's top trading partner in the Caribbean.
