Port of Tauranga finance/IT manager Steve Gray is the company's new chief financial officer.
Chief executive Mark Cairns said strong external candidates had also been shortlisted for the job, as part of an extensive search to fill the position.
Gray, who has been at the port for 20 years, replaces Colin Boocock, who is retiring after being with the company for 30 years.
