New Zealanders renting out their homes for the rugby World Cup should let their insurance company know to avoid jeopardising any claim, an insurance company says.
Homeowners needed to advise their insurer of "any change that may increase the chance of a claim'', and not doing so could jeopardise their cover and ability to make a claim, State Insurance executive general manager Mary-Jane Daly said.
"We don't want anyone to find themselves caught short. Insurance is there to help, which is why we want everyone to be aware of what needs to be considered,'' Daly said.
Homeowners renting out their home during the World Cup should take the same precautions as they would for a normal tenancy.
They should also obtain a written or verbal reference about a tenant, have a written tenancy agreement, collect a bond in advance, and conduct a property inspection before and after.
