The Infinz judges say Abano provides clear and insightful communication around its operational, financial and strategic goals.
"It is a complex business that executed its communication concisely, to the point, and in a way which was comprehensive but uncluttered," they said.
Abano chief financial officer Richard Keys said the companytook a "no surprises" approach to communications.
"We believe that the more informed our shareholders and the investment community are, the more likely they are to continue trusting us with their investment.
"We have a very trusting and enduring relationship with many retail and institutional investors and their advisers. This approach has helped us build outstanding levels of trust," he said.
Last year Abano, which operates the Lumino the Dentists chain and other health-related businesses, fended off an attempt by dissident investors to remove its chairman, Trevor Janes.
The Emerging Leaders award is chosen from companies that are outside the NZX50, and are based in New Zealand.
