If IBM New Zealand boss Nick Lambert, whose entire working life has been about selling computers and complex information systems, had to choose another job it would be test-driving fine and fast cars or making good wine.
Lambert is not unfamiliar with either - he has owned a Porsche and drinks good wine - but says his dream job is more about working with the best to produce the best and being given the opportunity to drive seriously fast.
A Porsche, he says, is a triumph of engineering - a fast car with an engine in the rear.
"Spectacular when you feel the power."
But he would also be happy behind the wheel of a Maserati or Ferrari.
"Perhaps it is just the incredible fun I get from driving at velocity - something that today can only be done on a track and not on the open road."
Fine cars such as this are about passion and commitment in a world where the brands are increasingly the same, says Lambert.
When it comes to winemaking, he is a fan of the French. He likes New Zealand wines but says the history and wines of the Rhone region are something to reflect on.
Wine can defy so many rules and is the embodiment of years of history, Lambert says. It would be a joy to be part of that.
Cars and wines fall prey to fads, "but these great brands are something that I would want to work with if I was not doing my job, which I love."
