ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast (AP) Ivory Coast has formed a new commission to resolve a maritime boundary dispute with neighboring Ghana in an area suspected to be rich in oil and gas.
Government spokesman Bruno Kone announced the commission late Tuesday following a cabinet meeting held in Bouake, a city in northern Ivory Coast.
He also said Ivory Coast President Alassane Ouattara and Ghana President John Dramani Mahama had agreed to peacefully resolve the contested area, which has never been fully demarcated.
Earlier this month, the two countries' oil ministers agreed to form a joint technical committee to demarcate the border by June 2014.
Ghana began pumping oil from its Jubilee field in 2010. In April, France's Total announced the discovery of oil in an Ivory Coast block next to the disputed area.
