HP chairwoman resigns

Patricia Dunn has resigned as Hewlett-Packard chairwoman with immediate effect amid allegations of illegal spying by the US computer firm.

She had earlier indicated she would leave in January over her role in a company probe into board leaks to the media.

The Hewlett-Packard board has appointed co-CEO Mark Hurd as chairman.
