Holden yesterday announced that 600 jobs are to be axed at its Elizabeth assembly operation in Adelaide.
Holden said recent investment in the Elizabeth plant meant it simply no longer needed as many workers to run at full capacity.
Holden recently secured a deal to ship up to 50,000 Commodore-based cars to the US each year, where they will be badged as the Pontiac G8.
